About Swimming for BACKBONES
I did it!!! I completed a 2 Kilometer Lake Zurich swim Sunday August 11th to raise money for BACKBONES - this amazing US based non-profit connecting those with spinal cord injury.
For perspective, I do not swim regularly and decided 4 weeks ago, to take on this swim challenge. My training was sporadic at best especially as we were traveling for 2 of those 4 weeks. So when I got to the Lake on Sunday 11th, I had my fingers and toes crossed :) Apart from my swim goggles constantly filling up with water… it all went smoothly.
Knowing that every dollar donated will help those participating in one of our 3 key programs - Leaders, Youth or Peer Connect, kept me going. If this cause resonates with you, any donation is appreciated no matter how small. The link is valid throughout the month of August.
Why spinal cord injury? I live with my amazing husband Rob who embraces every day positively no matter the ups & downs.
Why BACKBONES? It is a US based non-profit doing great work to connect and uplift those with spinal cord injury / disease through programs like the Leaders Program. Equally exciting, BACKBONES has celebrated it’s 15th year this year and will launch a new initiative supporting caregivers. A cause close to my heart.
Why fundraise? All of the three key programs require funding to support participants, pay for speakers & events and to ensure basic overheads are covered.
It is a tough time right now in the non-profit world so any support is appreciated.
For those who would like to support, any amount will go a long way!
